Confinement meals in the UK: a gentle guide

Delivery or home cooking? What a week might look like.

What are confinement meals?

Confinement meals are the food side of the confinement tradition — gentle soups and home-style dishes adjusted across the weeks after birth. They are a food tradition and everyday nourishment, not a treatment.

Delivery or home cooking

Two common set-ups: daily delivery from a partner provider, or home cooking by a live-in or day carer. Delivery is flexible; home cooking adapts to how you feel each day. Your advisor can explain both.

Dietary needs

Vegetarian, halal, allergies, gestational diabetes or breastfeeding considerations — please mention them when you enquire and check with your GP or midwife.
